Snow Range: 1000-2350m Village Heights 1000m (5,940ft); Highest Lift 2,350m (7,788ft) Morzine is an alpine Market town and one of the mores exclusive resorts on the Porte du Soleil; with luxury, boutique and good value chalets, Morzine cateres for everyone Morzine is the largest of the 13 interconnected ski resorts within Les Portes du Soleil, a region which straddles France and Switzerland. An old market town, Morzine was built long before downhill skiing was thought of. It's set in a lovely wooded valley on the banks of the River Dranse, and built in the traditional style. At one end of the Portes du Soleil is the bustling market town and traditional working village of Morzine. A collection of timber and stone, slate-clad chalets, more rustic in appearance than the Swiss resorts on the other side of the Portes du Soleil, and a proper taste of rural France. English is little spoken by the friendly locals so there is every chance to improve your rusty French. The village wakes up for the winter season with a vast array of pavement cafes, bars, restaurants, clubs, sports shops and boutiques. Morzine has been one of the most popular resorts for French families since the early 1950’s, testament to the reasonable prices, warm welcome, fine cuisine and excellent facilities. The resort is a quick and painless one and a half hours from the airport, one of the shortest transfers in the Alps. From the snow-cannoned Pleney nursery slopes in the middle of the resort to the wide-open reds of the Les Gets bowl, untracked Chamoissiere off-piste or mogul fields and couloirs of Prodains, the variety and challenge is limitless. Mountain restaurants are a real highlight; value for money traditional log cabins with roaring log fires, local speciality dishes and ‘vin chaud’ on tap. All of this on one of the cheapest ski passes in the Alps!
